Well, everybody, with Valentine's Day just having gone by, we all know that love is on many people's minds.
But what about the reader's mind? I don't know about you, but I have definitely been reminiscing on all the good times in books and all the great, inspiring couples sprinkled through literature.
Which couples exactly? I'm glad you asked.
It's book tag time!
*disclaimers*
1. At heart, I would answer Keefe and Sophie from Keeper of the Lost Cities for all of the positive questions, but for variety's sake... fine.
2. Be wary, just about all of these answers have spoilers in them, so tread lightly if you've yet to read these books. I will indicate where the major spoilers are, specifically for books series.
Alrighty! Let's just get to the questions!
1. Young Love: A really cute Childhood romance
Skye and Jeffrey from The Penderwicks.
*Spoilers for the last book*
I literally disregard the last book (when it comes to ships anyways). They were amazing for each other, they understood each other, it was actually foreshadowed all throughout the series, and I think they should have grown up and gotten married *cough* so does, *cough* the rest of the fandom, *cough, cough*
*end spoilers*
2. The First Date: A couple that you originally weren't sure about
Lily and Jack from Love on a Dime. Originally, I was thinking, "great, they are another one of those couples that started out when they were too immature and have literally ruined everybody's lives." Which is true. Jack should have handled their original courtship waaay better- I don't know, maybe by telling Lily's father that they were courting before you ask him for her hand ???
Nevertheless, God worked through both of them, eventually bringing them together in His timing in a much better way.
3. Too Much Chocolate: A good couple that eventually you eventually got sick of
Oh, for heaven's sake, Fitz and Sophie (and, yes, I'm still using KOTLC for a lot of this, but whatever).
*Spoilers for seventh and eighth book*
I used to be an avid Fitzphie fan. Not no more, babe.
I will save the full rant for another post, but I will leave it at, Fitz became emotionally manipulative to Sophie and when they got together in the 7th book, I knew that their relationship was going to go downhill. So, I was really happy when they broke it off in the 8th, but I was still sad that their friendship has been ruined.
*end spoilers*
4. The Soap Opera: A couple that took way too long to get together
Oh, Joel and Emily from The Pegasus series. I literally didn't even finish that series, but it was them that kept me reading the series as long as I did. I stopped around the third or fourth book, and they still weren't together!!! Literally, they kissed at the end of the second book and they barely addressed it. I understand that they were both pretty young, but it still drove me up a wall that they never addressed it, and from what I know, they never even make it official (disclaimer, they were not the reason I stopped reading it. It was actually the mythology, it was so inaccurate to Roman and Greek mythology! But, hey, maybe I'll pick them back up again one day).
5.The Engagement: A couple that fit together just right
Keefe Sencen and Sophie Foster and Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase.
Fight me.
6. Wedding Anniversary: The old married couple type (literally or figuratively)
Percy and Annabeth! They were one of those couples that always worked so well together, and they had already been through so much together, they were like an old married couple (that judo flip each other after not seeing one another for a long time...).
7. The Hepburn Chick-Flick: A couple from classic Literature that you adored
Here it is, baby:
Nathaniel Bowditch and Elizabeth Boardman from Carry on, Mr. Bowditch. I'll be honest, their romance made the book. The corn shucking scene??? That was one of the most entertaining things I've ever read. And their first kiss under the moonlight??? I'm sorry, but that was great.
8. The Movie Romance Rendition: A couple added in the movie that you wish had been in the books
Wow, this is one of the easiest questions ever. Kili and Tauriel from The Hobbit. For the time that they had together, I thought their romance was so beautifully done. They weren't quick about anything, instead, it was a sweet, longing kind of relationship.
*Third Movie Spoiler*
Tauriel was so heartbroken when Kili died. Of course, she was heartbroken that he died, but "romantically", she was torn over the love that they could've had. There was no infatuation with them, they genuinely saw such goodness and awesomeness in the other. They could've done so much together for the world and each other. That was their connection.
*End Movie Spoiler*
On a different note, I was really feeling for Legalaus over there because Tauriel is one amazing woman- a force to be reckoned with- and he genuinely loved her. I adored their friendship but really felt for him when she had to be honest with her feelings for him.
BONUS QUESTION!
9. Galentine's (or Palentine's) Day: A guy/girl that found out they were better being single (at that moment or forever)
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. This is not even about the female empowerment part, people. This is purely sheer Katniss-did-not-have-to-decide-who-she-had-to-marry-right-after-the-war-and-it-bugs-me-because-Peeta-never-healed-like-he-should-have-before-they-got-together kinda thing. I love Peeta, I think he is just great, but I do not think that Katniss had to be with Peeta, especially so soon after the war.
Well, there it is, 9 Valentine's Day Book Questions. I tag Mandy and Sha over at @ Book Princess Reviews!
